Today I welcome author Z. Allora to the blog to talking about the editing process.

1) Tell us a bit about you and your writing
I write rainbow romances involving BDSM and contemporary about characters who are on the fringes and edges. I explore different orientations like demi-sexual, pansexual, BDSM-oriented, etc. as well as writing about people scattered along the gender spectrum. My goal is to validate everyone’s experience.

1) Tell us a bit about you and your writing
I write both fiction and nonfiction. I began writing as a child and started my professional career after obtaining my degree. I have experience as a reporter, and I’m currently self employed as a freelance writer. I publish my books through my publishing house, Sun Up Press.

2) What do you enjoy most about the editing process?
I enjoy polishing the manuscript to make it as perfect as it can possibly be. It’s like creating a diamond out of a lump of coal.

3) What do you find hardest about the editing process?
It is very time consuming, and sometimes there are moments where I know an issue needs fixed but not exactly how to fix it. It always gets resolved in the end, though.

4) What are your general thoughts on editing as part of the overall publishing process?
Writing multiple drafts are a must. Also, copy editing and a final proofread shouldn’t be skipped. Readers will notice. Unfortunately, there are still many who believe editors are out to steal authors’ work.

5) What are your top editing-related tips for authors?
1. Learn grammar, punctuation and style.
2. Don’t be frightened to hire an expert.

1) Tell us a bit about you and your writing
My name is Diana and I’m a New Zealander currently living in rural Japan, where I’ve mostly been based since 2012. I devour novels of all kinds but have a particular love for fantasy, historical fiction, and M/M romance – hence my first published work of fiction, Wild Magics #1: A Trust to Follow, is a historical-fantasy novella centered around two male characters who are very much in love with one another. A Trust to Follow was originally published with Wayward Ink Publishing in May 2016, and then re-edited, re-covered and re-homed in May 2018 with eXtasy Books. The full-size novel sequel, Wild Magics #2: Kaidyn’s Courage, is set a decade or so later in a neighbouring kingdom. As of this writing, it’s either due to be released very shortly or has very recently been released, also with eXtasy Books. Wild Magics #3 (as yet untitled), the final planned book in the series, is in its final drafting stages. Once this is submitted for publication, I have several new ideas I’m playing around with and am very much looking forward to getting properly stuck into.

1) Tell us a bit about you and your writing
I write women loving women erotic romance and publish with NineStar Press. I had written short stories on and off over the years, but six years ago I began submitting them to various anthologies and actively seeking publication. I had a collection of short stories published but was afraid to transition into novel writing. After one of my favourite stories was rejected, a very good friend who had read the story, said in the most gentle way, "it's because it needs to be a novel." And that was how I wrote my first book. NineStar press accepted it and I have been with them ever since.
The third book, in the series started by that short story- that-became-a-novel, Knotted Legacy, just made a top 100 vacation reads list from The Lesbian Review and I could not be more grateful that I listened to my friend.

I’m a queer adventure enby and I write queer adventure stories! I loved reading from a very young age, and writing my own stories was the next natural step. I was always working on fantasy plots and characters in my head.
I self-pubbed my novel Echoes first, but then found a home at a small press. They’re publishing Echoes as well as two novellas. The start to this journey is terrifying, but exciting!

1) Tell us a bit about you and your writing
I started out with fantasy, the Gods of War series (ongoing) in 2016 and released my first contemporary romantic BDSM novel last year, and the second in the series (Club Whisper) in April this year. I’m with Dreamspinner, which, in my opinion, is the best publisher for a newbie like me to start out! As for how I got into writing, I always loved to tell stories and then I got pregnant and really needed the distraction. As to why I write in English, even though I’m from Germany, a former professor of mine from New Jersey told me to try the English-speaking market and he was right. Some of the best advice I ever got.

Hi, my name is Maria Siopis. I’m originally from Greece but moved to the United States thousands of years ago--it feels like it--and never left. My home is New York. I began writing very early in life, composing short stories, but never considered writing professionally. Fast forward thirty years, and I completed a couple of novels--the very first one was edited by Nicola Markus--and more than a few stories. Most of my work is published by Shadoe Publishing, a small press, which I think is so much more personal than a big publishing house. I have four WIP projects that I’m hoping to complete by the end of 2018.
